Civic Leaders Convene For Summit To Support KSD Schools & Students
Kent School District - Kent, WA. 1 December 2011 - Kent School District (KSD) officials and community civic leaders met December 1 to discuss a new community partnership web page to help connect individuals and groups who want to work with KSD schools. Among the groups represented at the meeting were Covington Lions Club, Soroptimist International of Kent, Covington Chamber, Kent Rotary, Kiwanis, Kent Youth and Family Services, Kent Police Department, Kent Sunrise Rotary, Communities In Schools, Kent Chamber of Commerce, and the Kent Community Foundation. School Board Director Tim Clark was also in attendance and thanked everyone for their caring and support.
The superintendent, along with members of his cabinet, holds regular meetings with civic leaders throughout the year to maximize and match partnership opportunities with schools. The new web page is part of the ongoing process to streamline enrolling volunteers and to place volunteers with certain interests and skills in schools with needs met by those abilities. District officials listened to civic leaders as they previewed the site and provided feedback and made notations for changes.

“Kent School District is fortunate to have a community that is not only interested in our children receiving a quality education that prepares them for the future, but being actively involved in schools on a daily basis supporting both students and staff. Not all school districts are so lucky. This is a major investment from our community and the dividends will be seen for years to come,”
said Superintendent Dr. Edward Lee Vargas.

The civic leaders and KSD officials will meet again in March.

Richard Balash of Covington Rotary and Kent Community Foundation, and Lew Sellers of Kent Community Foundation joined other civic leaders at Kent School District.
